What type of coverage do you need?

Losing a parent or a guardian is one of life’s hardest moments to overcome. Along with emotional stress it also can bring financial stress when an untimely death happens. This makes the recovery extremely difficult for family members.

Trying to pay for a college education is already difficult enough as it is for normal families. But when a parent dies, leaving little or no life insurance, it becomes almost impossible for a student to pay for a college education.

Life insurance is an important safety net that parents can leave to their families. However, almost 100 million Americans do not have life insurance and if they do, the coverage is far less than recommended.

Life Happens recognizes the character and determination that many young people have to face in the time of adversity. They sponsor the annual Life Lessons Scholarship Program for college students and college-bound high school seniors. Students who are qualified submit essays or videos about how the death of a parent impacted their lives. These students are eligible for scholarship money. Over a million dollars in scholarships have been granted over the years. The amount for the 2015 Program in $225,000 and will be allotted in the following amounts:

· Grand Scholarship Recipients (3) $15,000

· Board of Directors Scholarship (1) $10,000

· Life Lessons Swiss Re Scholarship (1) $10,000

· Life Lessons State Farm Foundation (2) $12,500

· First Runner-Up (10) $8,000

· Second Runner-Up (11) $5,000

The Life Lessons Scholarship is an annual program. The online applications are solicited during the February timeframe and the scholarship recipients are notified in the June timeframe.
